Teens vs Adults and Social Media

I came across this article from my Google Alerts. donah boyd explains how teens use social media differently than adults. They rarely use linking and speak to only a handful of friends through their accounts. It also mentions her new book that I am going to purchase.

Hyperlinks

Linking is one of the biggest parts of blogging. I figure that I would add a post on linking. Let's add an <a></a> HTML tag to your blog. The basic <a> tag is this: It includes an <a> open tag and an </a> closing tag. Here is some text: Visit our social media Google+ page. To make this a hyper-link, we need to use the <a></a> tag. The <a></a> tag consists of a reference, title, and (optional) a target.

Here's how it works:

Visit our social media media <a href="https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/106263980696246227305" title="SOC 6903" target="_blank">Google+</a> page.

Visit our social media Google+ page

In this example, I added a hyperlink. Here is the basic syntax: <a href="" title="" target=""></a>
This has to be added in the HTML section of your blog. The href is the url to which you want to navigate; the title is what is shown when you hover over the link, SOC 6903 in the example above; and the target is optional and usually tells the link to open in the _parent window or a _blank tab or window.

This is very helpful when you want to keep the flow of the paragraph without interruptions from weird hyperlinks like https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/106263980696246227305.
Alternatively, you can use the hyperlink tool "Link" in the toolbar. This is probably the best way to accomplish this, but if you ever get into trouble, I hope understanding the mechanics of this will help out. Google+. You'll notice that the same options are available for this tool except for the title option.

RSS HOMEPAGE AND ALERTS Richard M. Cano: Protopage

http://www.protopage.com/socmultimedia

Protopage is an online RSS Reader that allows you to keep all of your RSS  feeds in one place. It is hosted on the cloud, so you can access all of these feeds from different mobile devices. The link above is an example of a Protopage Homepage; this is my homepage. In addition, I have created Google Alerts for similar interests as those in my Protopage Homepage.
Here is a list of those alerts:

"Narrate, Curate, Share"

I've actually heard these terms in conjunction before. "Narrate, Curate, Share" does a great job at depicting the true meaning of what blogging is all about. Aron Barlow wrote a book on this same subject, and the idea that you are a storyteller as a blogger resonates through his book; you are a storyteller in the new public sphere. As a curator, you begin to think about what your writings can do to the individuals who read them; you think, essentially, about how your writing and thought affect people and life. It is important to state that the connectedness is, in fact, the basic premise of social media, of which blogging shared a big part in by sharing.

SOCIAL BOOKMARKING Richard M. Cano: Delicious

Delicious is a social bookmarking website that allows you to save all the links that interest you in one place. You have a home page with all the links listed. You can search through your links or filter them by keywords that you assign to them. You can even discover links and create relationships with other people. You can use their links as your own or you can search their links. There is even a feature that allows you to connect to your other social media profiles and even share your links through them. Perhaps the most fascinating feature is that it is hosted on the cloud, meaning, you will always have access to them via all of you Internet enabled multimedia devices.

Audacity

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
I'm not sure if Audacity has an online feature, but this program available for download has helped out on various occasions. Mainly to complete class projects. I have ProTools, that has recently changed due to the vast production of music that is both CD quality and cheap. It is now harder to produce such material. I still have the equipment to produce this, but it is hard to power up and get the results that I want where Audacity lets me edit audio quickly. I would highly recommend using Audacity, if you can tackle the learning curve of audio editing, get it.

Blogger Static Home Page and Menu Navigation

http://www.bloggertipspro.com/2012/06/creating-blogger-static-home-page.html
Here is a link that shows how you can set up a static home page and a navigation bar on Blogger so that your posts can be categorized like a website. By the way, I would reserve those labels used for each page to categorize the pages. A similar label could be used to emphasize the post.
